Get educated.

There are currently 12.4 million people in need of aid in the Horn of Africa.  Millions are starving due to famine conditions brought on by drought, particularly in southern Somalia, where the hostile government blocks much of the available aid.  There are many ways to help, particularly by raising awareness.  This is an issue that I had not heard about until I saw a heartbreaking photo on Yahoo, of a small African child looking like an inmate of a Nazi concentration camp.  It’s sickening that more people are not aware of what’s going on.  This should be one of the highest priorities of every affluent nation in the world.  Liking the World Food Programme on Facebook is a great way to raise awareness among your friends.

Another incredibly important way to help is to donate.  The World Food Programme, associated with the United Nations, is heavily involved in providing immediate relief to the people of Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia.  The FEED Foundation is an associated organization that fights hunger by selling cool bags, tees, and other items, the money from which goes toward fighting hunger.  The proceeds from a single FEED 1 bag ($60) provide school lunch for a child for an entire year through donations to the WFP.

In this country we are so blessed with incredible wealth.  In the Bible, we are told that much will be expected of those to whom much is given.  Let’s be good stewards of the blessings God has given us.  Let’s spread the blessings around!
